Imbolc, celebrated around February 1–2, is an ancient Celtic seasonal festival marking the halfway point between winter and spring. Traditionally associated with St. Brigid, Imbolc honors renewal, protection, creativity, and the slow return of light to the land.
In this family-oriented gathering, we’ll come together to:
Learn about the seasonal meaning of Imbolc
Craft traditional Brigid’s crosses using natural rushes (Juncus textilis)
Share warm herbal tea
Reflect on the subtle signs of early spring
Time permitting, enjoy a short, gentle plant walk to notice what’s beginning to stir in the landscape
Brigid’s crosses have long been made at Imbolc and placed above doorways, barns, and animal enclosures as symbols of protection and blessing for the year ahead. This simple, hands-on craft is accessible to children and meaningful for adults — a beautiful way to connect seasonal tradition, creativity, and family time.
This event is designed for families and homeschoolers, but open to the wider community. Parents or guardians must remain with their children throughout the gathering.
